Abstract:
Chlorpyrifos is one of the most extensively produced and used pesticides in China. In May 2025, the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants listed chlorpyrifos in Annex A of the Convention, officially launching the global control and phase-out of chlorpyrifos. This paper provides an overview of the international progress of chlorpyrifos management, including the current control measures in major countries and regions, particularly the control requirements and phase-out process under the Stockholm Convention. It also analyses the issues and challenges China faces in this context and proposes strategies and recommendations for strengthening the control of chlorpyrifos.
