Abstract:
Cotton is an important economic crop and strategic commodity in China. The occurrence of diseases, pests, and weeds severely restricts the development of the cotton industry and is one of the main issues preventing the improvement of cotton yield. As of March 2025, China had registered 220 fungicides, 1,961 insecticides (including acaricides), 339 herbicides, and 331 plant growth regulators for use with cotton. This article analyzes the current status of pesticide product registration for cotton in China, revealing issues such as the aging and homogenization of existing registered products, insufficient innovation in product formulations, a disconnect between application methods and actual cotton production practices, increasing resistance risks, and a lack of effective agents for certain control targets. It also explores prospects for developing new pesticide formulations and their corresponding application technologies, as well as strengthening the research and development of biopesticides, aiming to offer references for the development and application of cotton pesticide products in China.
