Progress of the oviposition pheromone, (5R, 6S)-6-acetoxy-5-hexadecane-olide, of mosquito, Culex pipens fatigans and Culex quinquefasciatus

The research progress of the oviposition pheromone, (5R, 6S)-6-acetoxy-5-hexadecane-olide, of mosquito, Culex pipens fatigans and C. quinquefasciatus in the past 40 years was reviewed, including the discovery, planar and stereo structure determination, the attractive activities of the stereoisomers, synthesis, target protein of binding action and the application of the pheromone. The aim of this reviews is to promote the utility of insect pheromone in the prevention and control of vector insect pest in China.
