Laccase: a novel target with potential applications in development of agricultural fungicides

    • Consequently, identifying new green fungicides has become critical. Currently, the molecular design of fungicides depends on known targets, but the repeated use of fungicides targeting a single pathway undoubtedly increases the risk of cross-resistance in harmful organisms. Therefore, the development of fungicides with novel mechanisms of action based on new targets can effectively solve the problem of pathogenic bacteria resistance to existing fungicides. Laccase is a key enzyme in the biosynthesis pathway of dihydroxynaphthalene melanin. Its absence can affect fungal growth and development and pathogenic infestation, and may be investigated as a potential target for pesticide fungicides. This paper introduces the structure and functionality of laccase, spotlighting recent advances in the study of compounds with laccase inhibitory activity as promising agents. With the hope of providing guidance for the discovery of more novel laccase inhibitors as fungicides.
