Recent developments in the Codex Priority List for pesticide evaluations: analysis and recommendations

Codex Maximum Residue Limits (CXLs) serve as important international standard references, and their setting and revision directly affect global agricultural trade fairness and consumer health. The priority list, as the annual work plan of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR), systematically schedules pesticide evaluation and serves as a key basis for tracking trends in MRL setting. Based on the report of the 56th Session of the CCPR and relevant documents of the Electronic Working Group (EWG) on the Priority List, this paper systematically introduces the priority lists proposed by CCPR for 2026 and beyond. It focuses on new compounds, new uses, and other compounds scheduled for evaluation, as well as compounds undergoing periodic review, and analyzes their registration status in China and export trade data in detail. Suggestions are offered for China's participation in international standard setting, including strengthening guidance on new pesticide applications, focusing on new uses in characteristic crops, actively engaging in periodic evaluations, and standardizing submission materials, to provide references for enhancing China's discourse power in international standard setting.
