Progress on gibberellins, gibberellins functional analogues and gibberellins receptor

    • Gibberellins (GAs) are a large family of tetracyclic, diterpenoid plant hormones that induce a wide range of high plant growth responses. Since the first discovery of GA3 in the Gibberella fujikuroi fungus, 136 GAs have been identified from different plant, fungi and bacteria. However, only a few GAs were active growth regulators in the seed plant. Recently, the complex crystal structures of GA receptor GID1A with GA3 and GA4 were successfully identified, which would provide a good chance for the rational design of novel GA functional analogues based on the GA receptor GID1 structure. The research progress on structure and synthesis of GA and its functional analogues, the structural characters of the GA receptor GID1, and the GA recognition mode to the GA receptor GID1 protein was reviewed. It was hopeful that these studies would be beneficial in discovering some novel potential GA-like functional molecules based on GID1.
