Sulfuryl Fluoride—A Potential Alternativeto Methyl Bromide in Soil Fumigation

    • The results of preliminary experiments show that sulfuryl fluoride, 25~50 g/m2, presented good control efficacy to both soil-born fungal pathogens and nematodes. The yield of tomato after applying sulfuryl fluoride was similar to that obtained from methyl bromide treated plots. The application of sulfuryl fluoride is more convenient than that of methyl bromide because the tension of sulfuryl fluoride is higher and sulfuryl fluoride is gas under normal temperature. The application does not need to make small arches or use hot system. Besides, it does not need specific equipment applied for metam sodium. So, sulfuryl fluoride is a promising alternative to methyl bromide in soil fumigation.
