The Effect of Terpinen-4-ol on Endogenous Enzymes of Protective System in Housefly

    • The effects of terpinen-4-ol, a main insecticidal composition in essential oil of Sabina vulgaris Ant,on activities of endogenous enzymes of protective system in adult of housefly (Musca domestica L.) were studied. The result indicated that superoxide dismutase (SOD) was activated by terpinen-4-ol, SOD activities in all poisoning stages were significantly higher than that of the control. The activity of catalase (CAT) was inhibited by terpinen-4-ol in exciting stage, but was gradually activated, it was 1.19 times of control in recovering stage. Peroxidase (POD) was also significantly activated by terpinen-4-ol, the activities were respectively 2.25,2.04,1.23 and 2.91 times of that of control in exciting stage, convulsing stage, paralysis stage and recovering stage. The activities of endogenous enzymes of protective system were closely related to the effect of terpinen-4-ol. SOD activities were increased, may be due to the in duced reaction of terpinen-4-ol. The recovering of insects poisoned was probably related to the change of POD and CAT activities.
